VRS needs your support to continue its mission to provide affordable housing for the people in the Mat-Su Valley . VRS provides quality, safe, and secure housing to individuals and families. VRS strives to improve the quality of life of its residents by providing the most basic element of stabilization - housing. It is vitally important that everyone have a safe, secure and affordable place to lie their head down at night, a place to call home. It is VRS's mission to provide that housing to the people who are often at risk and most difficult to house.

The Mat-Su Valley has a population of over 115,000 and is one of the fastest growing areas of the country. Affordable housing for people with low to moderate incomes within this population is an ongoing, critical need. To meet this need, over the last ten years VRS has partnered with several developers and taken on the responsibility to manage some six new housing projects. The most recently completed construction was a 36 unit facility called Winter Rose II Housing. This facility features full supportive services and housing vouchers for some of the most difficult population to house.
In addition to new construction, VRS has acquired various properties from other non-profits to own/manage and has entered property management partnerships with other developers and now manages the daily operations of some 26 properties consisting of 400 housing units and serves the housing needs of some 900 people. VRS has worked with various funders including the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, and the Mat-Su Health Foundation to help provide the funds to operate these facilities. However, in today's economy, these funds are getting more difficult to receive and more restrictive in their use. These funds are often fixed and limited while the costs to operate these facilities continue to rise. The need for community support to help fill this gap is ongoing and greatly increasing.

Affordable housing for people with low to moderate income continues to grow and the cost of that housing continues to increase.
