How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference

Alaskans who choose Skiku through Pick.Click.Give. understand the important role healthy, active experiences can play in shaping the lives of young people. For many children in rural Alaska, access to organized sports and outdoor recreation is limited by geography, cost, and a lack of equipment and trained coaches.
Each season, Skiku brings free Nordic ski programming to dozens of rural Alaska communities—often providing an opportunity that communities would otherwise be unable to afford. We bring the skis, boots, poles, coaches, equipment, food, and logistical support directly to the villages, removing the financial barriers that can keep children from participating.
Skiku is more than a week of skiing. We use Nordic skiing to help children build confidence, resilience, and a sense of accomplishment while spending time outdoors and connecting with their land and culture. We also work with each community to identify and train local leaders who can continue coaching after Skiku leaves, helping create sustainable ski programs that can serve children for years to come.
Pick.Click.Give. donations help offset the significant costs of reaching rural communities, including airfare and transportation, equipment replacement and repair, shipping, and other village logistics. Every contribution helps us put more children on skis and expand access to a healthy, positive activity.
Last year, Skiku reached 1,949 children in 25 rural Alaska communities. More than 95% of the children we served were Alaska Native residing in rural villages. This year, we are working toward reaching up to 40 villages and approximately 4,000 youth.
