Sitka, AK • EIN: 92-0169964
We seek to preserve world maritime heritage with a focus on the waters surrounding Sitka, Alaska, and to continue this living tradition through educational programs for the public and especially youth. For almost two decades, we have developed our educational mission by collecting photographs, organizing maritime lectures and hands-on workshops, and conducting sailing classes. Our pub talks and lively annual meetings provide a platform for mariners and enthusiasts to gather together, share their experience, and spread knowledge. Our main focus has been the rehabilitation and adaptive re-use of the WWII Japonski Island Boathouse for use as a "Maritime Heritage Center" for the community. By celebrating our maritime heritage, we promote pride in our Sitka way of life, and we impart the maritime knowledge necessary to live that way of life well into the future.
