Ketchikan, AK • EIN: 92-0146378
RYC advocates for and fosters the safety and well-being of youth at risk and their families so they may lead productive lives.
About
RYC sponsors the Ketchikan Afterschool Program (KAP). KAP is a free, drop-in program serving students in 6th through 9th grades. It is during these years that many young people first encounter significant risk factors such as early substance use, peer conflict, and bullying. KAP serves this high need age group by providing safety, structure, and caring adult relationships that research identifies as protective during early adolescence. KAP provides regular enrichment activities and opportunities for positive peer interaction. Staff create a welcoming environment where youth can decompress, build friendships, practice social skills, and engage in activities that support creativity, cultural connection, and positive development. KAP provides low barrier and youth friendly activities including games, crafts, reading, music, cooking, and outdoor recreation. KAP also helps meet basic needs by providing a predictable environment and healthy snacks.
