Fairbanks, AK • EIN: 92-6010100
The Literacy Council of Alaska was started in 1973 with the same Mission as we have today: To change lives through literacy for people of all ages in Fairbanks and the Interior! English as a Second Language: We tutor and teach classes at every level for adults learning to speak English. We also provide citizenship classes. GED: We offer GED tutoring in reading and writing, math, social studies, and science. We prepare our students to pass the GED test, with nearly 90 graduates a year! Pathways: We facilitate transitional education for youth ages 16-24. Those working on educational goals are provided work experience as they prepare to enter the work force. After School Program: We provide year round tutoring and programming for the youth who live in subsidized housing near downtown Fairbanks. Book Recycling: Annually we provide 10,000-20,000 books to organizations and individuals across Interior Alaska. This creates a print rich environment and ensures people have books! Forget-Me-Not Books: Our great used bookstore that provides books at great prices and revenue to sustain the programs at LCA. The friends and partners of LCA make Fairbanks a wonderful place to change lives through literacy. Thank You!
