The mission of Ketchikan Community Foundation (KCF), an Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation: Growing an endowment to strengthen the charitable nonprofits serving greater Ketchikan. KCF's goal is to both support and sustain the vibrant Ketchikan area nonprofit community by growing an endowment fund that, through grants, is responsive to local needs. The Ketchikan Community Foundation (KCF) became an Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation in March 2013. We are extremely grateful to the many individuals, business owners and, especially, The Rasmuson Foundation, whose vision, expertise, and financial support helped us launch. By early 2016, our endowment fund stood at about $250,000 and had reached a point where we could afford to disperse grant funds for the first time. A total of about $11,000 was distributed in May 2016 to four Ketchikan organizations – Ketchikan Special Olympics, Ketchikan Theatre Ballet, Ketchikan Volunteer Hospice, and Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council. KCF uses only a portion of the interest earnings for the grants, which ensures the endowment fund principle remains intact and growing in perpetuity. KCF is committed to continue building the endowment fund so we can support larger and larger grant awards in the future.
