About
Iḷisaġvik College is Alaska’s only Tribal College and the only institution of higher education serving the Alaskan Arctic. Located in Utqiaġvik, the northernmost community in Alaska, Iḷisaġvik serves approximately 1,100 students annually from across the state through academic, career, and workforce development programs. Iḷisaġvik provides quality post-secondary education in a learning environment grounded in Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions. Within the 89,000-square-mile North Slope Borough and across Alaska, the College is dedicated to student success and to developing a well-educated and highly trained workforce that meets the needs of North Slope employers and the state. Through education and training, Iḷisaġvik strengthens Iñupiat culture while creating opportunities for students, families, and communities to thrive.

At Iḷisaġvik College, education is rooted in Iñupiat culture, language, and values. Students can pursue academic degrees, career and technical credentials, workforce training, and opportunities to strengthen their knowledge of Iñupiat culture and ways of life. As Alaska’s only Tribal College, Iḷisaġvik provides an educational experience grounded in an Indigenous worldview and designed to serve students and communities across the North Slope and Alaska.Iḷisaġvik offers one bachelor’s degree program, 12 Associate Degree programs, 26 Certificate programs, and a robust list of endorsements. During the 2025–26 academic year, Iḷisaġvik had 1,347 total enrollments. Among academic students, 68% identified as American Indian/Alaska Native and 48% as first-generation college students. The Workforce Development Department delivered 235 workshops and classes across 96 topics, serving 916 unduplicated students and awarded 1,370 certificates. Tuzzy Consortium Library, Iḷisaġvik's academic library, provides students, faculty, and staff with access to research resources, technology, and academic support while also serving as a resource for communities across the North Slope.
