About
The Friends of the Homer Public Library’s mission is to provide volunteer support for library programs and services, to raise funds that enrich the library experience and to promote the use and enjoyment of the library. FHL is a not-for-profit organization established in 1982. With the support of its members, FHL provides resources for programs and capital improvements for the library and works to publicize the tools and services available to community members at no cost, without discrimination.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Friends of the Homer Public Library provides resources for programs such as:• The Summer Reading Program that features events all summer long to educate and
entertain young readers, teens and adults
• Pre-school Story hour and Infant Lapsit, weekly programs that help parents learn pre-
literacy skills for reading with their children and help children learn to listen and enjoy
reading
• Twice-monthly walk-in technology assistance sessions
• Maker Program for youth and teens to develop STEM skills
• Author readings, literary series, civil discourse series, visiting experts and other
opportunities that develop throughout the year.
• BOB (Books On Board) the Bookmobile visits to area schools in the spring and fall, as
well as summer visits to local parks, playgrounds, beaches, and library events.
• Book Box outreach program to share books with area communities that BOB the
Bookmobile is unable to visit
• StoryWalk Trail updated with stories printed and installed monthly during the summer
• Celebration of Lifelong Learning event that promotes literacy, and honors Homer area
Youth and Adult lifelog learners
• Art in the Library highlights local artists (at all stages of their artistic endeavors) by
showcasing their artwork at the library
Other examples of Friends of the Homer Public Library support over the years include:
• Enhanced shelving for DVDs and other digital media
• E-Readers and audio devices for check-out
• Early literacy toys and games for young children
• A bench by the door for people to take off or put on their winter shoes
• Additional lighting in the teen reading area
