About

The Friends (FoSLAM) nonprofit connects people to Alaska's diverse history, art, and cultures by providing financial support to the Alaska State Library, Archives and Museum. We purchase historical artifacts, art, photographs, and books for the library and museum collections. We also host receptions for exhibit openings and sponsor cultural and educational events.

Lifelong learning

With your donation, you help the Friends (FoSLAM) organization
* Collect, preserve, interpret, and display Alaska's diverse cultural history as a catalyst for critical thinking, personal and social development, and lifelong learning
* Educate via workshops, lectures, curated events, emails, social media, an annual report, and foslam.org website
• Expand statewide collections through purchases of art, photos, artifacts. books, and documents
• Host free First Friday exhibit receptions, artist demonstrations, talks, book signings, and musical performances
• Advocate for legislative funding statewide for Alaska libraries and museums
• Fund summer interns pursuing library, archives, and/or museum studies
• Contribute donations, grants, and legacy gifts to Forever Friends Endowment Fund for a sustainable future
* Safeguard government, historical, and cultural records in the Historical Library and Archives

Last year, TOGETHER we
* Supported 20 programs, workshops, and talks; 5 concerts; 3 artist-led workshops; and 5 youth activities
* Donated $13,750 for exhibition support and artist honoraria
* Managed $19,000 from 13 grants and donations for acquisitions, exhibit support, and youth activities
* Funded $4,150 to repair the historic Kimball Theatre organ housed at the State Office Building
* Welcomed children of all ages to the interactive Octopus Room and soon to a new children's exploration space
