About
Our mission is to provide books, technology and resources, such as a seed library and family activities, for the betterment of the Ester community. We also collect and preserve local history, organize programs, and provide a meeting space for eclectic groups, which fosters learning, discussion, creativity, and engagement. In addition, the Ester Village Library mission is to build a new landmark library that not only meets the highest standards of sustainability and design but also serves as a hub for creativity and connection.

We are a small community-supported membership library open to the public. Unlike public libraries, we depend primarily on individual support, grants and fund raisers for our programs and operations. The membership model is rare, but we knew that it was very unlikely that our small community would ever get a local public library—so we didn't wait. We started our own, and it has been low-cost, low-maintenance, and all-volunteer from its beginning in 1999. Our programs include children's reading and activity sessions, and our “Growing Ester’s Biodiversity” seed library.We also offer high speed WiFi, and most days of the week offer special interest groups - writing on Sundays, children's programs on Mondays, and knitting on Tuesdays. The library is open upon request of our membership, for various meetings and clubs.
While our long-term plans include the construction of a new, sustainably designed library, our shorter-term plans include running water and an indoor, ADA accessible toilet (we currently have an ADA complaint port-a-potty on the rear deck).
