About
Also known as BCDC, the Breast Cancer Detection Center of Alaska was founded in Fairbanks in 1976 with a mission that remains at the heart of everything we do: increasing awareness of the survivability of breast cancer and the importance of early detection. For 50 years, BCDC has worked to make breast cancer screening more accessible to Alaskans. We serve patients at our Fairbanks clinic and travel throughout the state with our mobile mammography program, bringing screening directly to communities where these services are not readily available. Today, BCDC provides screening and diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, and Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) for women with dense breast tissue. We also provide education and financial assistance to help remove barriers that may prevent someone from getting the breast imaging they need. Alaska is vast, and access to healthcare can look very different depending on where you live. At BCDC, we believe distance or financial hardship should never be the reason breast cancer goes undetected. Early detection saves lives, and for 50 years, that has been our purpose.
