Bird TLC cares and advocates for Alaska's wild birds through rehabilitation, education, and outreach.
About
Since 1988, we have provided rehabilitative care for injured and orphaned wild birds and delivered conservation education programs. We care for over 500 injured and orphaned wild birds annually from across the state, giving them a second chance at life in the wild. Our education team presents approximately 100 programs to K-12 students and the public every year, instilling appreciation for Alaska’s birdlife.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Your Pick.Click.Give. donation will support our rehabilitation and education programs.
OUR REHABILITATION PROGRAM
Your donation will provide veterinary services, food, and enrichment for injured and orphaned wild birds in our care. By the end of September 2025, we had taken in more than 400 birds from the Anchorage Bowl, Kenai Peninsula, Fairbanks, and off-the-road villages, including Elim, Sand Point, Galena, and Dillingham. Birds we released back to the wild include a Boreal Owl who flew into a glass door, a Merlin with a bullet in his wing, Lincoln’s Sparrows caught in glue traps, gulls and ducks entangled in fishing line, and many orphaned waterbirds.
Like these survivors, most of the birds we see in our clinic have been negatively impacted by humans. Birds may suffer injuries when they are struck by a car; attacked by a cat or dog; collide with a window; become entangled in fishing line; or ingest trash, pesticides, or lead. Sadly, some birds have even been intentionally harmed by humans. We consider it our responsibility to provide these birds a second chance at life in the wild. Join us in compassionate stewardship by donating a portion of your PFD to BirdTLC.
We are permitted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to rehabilitate and release all bird species protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
OUR EDUCATION PROGRAM
Your donation will support our educational programs, helping purchase program supplies and provide veterinary care, food, and enrichment for our Ambassador Birds.
Through education, we inspire others to appreciate and care for the wild birds with whom we share the world. Every year, our small but dedicated team of educators and Ambassador Birds engages thousands of K-12 students, Alaskan residents, and tourists through conservation education programs. These include classroom visits, summer camps, the Avian Teen Crew, and community outreach events.
The stars of our educational programs are our Ambassador Birds. The cast includes a Snowy and Great Horned Owl, Bald Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Black-billed Magpie, and American Crow. Program participants make a personal connection with our Ambassadors and leave feeling empowered to help wild birds. Even simple steps can make a significant difference, such as installing window deflectors, keeping cats indoors, or donating a portion of your PFD to support education about Alaska’s wild birds.
