Sharing, perpetuating, and preserving Athabascan Cultural traditions and values, by preservation, documentation and education.
About
Voice of Denali was created by the Athabascan Fiddlers Association (AFA). The AFA is renowned for organizing the annual music festival in Fairbanks, Alaska—a cornerstone celebration that brings together hundreds of people from across the Interior for four days of cultural and musical celebration.
While the festival is a time for musicians to play the best music around, it is primarily a space for sharing, helping the AFA meet its mission of cultural preservation through song and community.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
In 1982, the first “official” Athabascan Fiddlers Festival was organized, becoming an annual tradition celebrating a rich and unique musical heritage. Growing out of this event and continuing it for 32 years, the Athabascan Fiddlers Association became an Alaska-chartered, federally-recognized 501(c)(3) in 2001 to fulfill its mission. For four days each Fall, approximately 80 performing groups travel to Fairbanks to play their music, and hundreds gather from throughout Alaska’s interior to listen. Rural and non-rural come together to trade stories old and new, celebrate, dance, actively participate in, and share a thriving culture. The Voice of Denali KRFF 89.1 FM was established to meet that need. A cultural and technological crossroads, KRFF is a venue with the capacity to embrace emerging performers, local community interests, and the many groups dedicated to preserving and sharing the diverse traditions that are our local history. Pick Click Give gives Alaskans the opportunity to participate directly in this exciting adventure as we at the same time expand our base of support.
