The Alzheimer's Association Alaska Chapter is dedicated to ending Alzheimer's and all other dementia. Through fundraising events like the Walk to End Alzheimer's and The Longest Day, we raise awareness and funds that support research and help lead the way to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia. With the help of our volunteer advocates, we are working to make Alzheimer's a top priority on a state and national level. The Alzheimer's Association Alaska Chapter promotes public policy changes ensuring the State of Alaska and Alaska's federal congressional delegation supports and benefits Alaskans with dementia and their unpaid family caregivers. Every year, new improvements are made, and your donation supports the costs associated with our administrative work. In the past two years, Alzheimer's Association volunteer advocates have supported:
- dementia-specific education requirements for emergency responders and nursing assistants
- the establishment of an Alaska Dementia Awareness and Health Care Capacity Program
- a state plan on Alzheimer's
- data collection regarding dementia in Alaska and annual reports
- a new State dementia coordinator position
- $50,000 for dementia resources for rural areas
- The National Alzheimer's Project Act Reauthorization
- $321,000,000 annually in funding for research for a cure at the National Institutes of Health
- New federal funding for dementia-related projects in Alaska
- The Alzheimer's Accountability Act
- Medicaid and Medicare Alzheimer's Treatment Coverage
- The Caregivers Support Act
- The Comprehensive Care for Alzheimer's Act
