APTA Alaska has a long history of service to our community. In the 1980s and 1990s, efforts were made to provide pro bono physical therapy services to the Anchorage community at the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Clinic. This helps to achieve the vision of APTA Alaska: Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience for all Alaskans. The belief in this mission never faded. The APTA Alaska Board of Directors were challenged with the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board did our best to focus on positive action that we could provide for our members and the community. We started a sign up to help those in our community, provided practice guidelines and support for practitioners, provided guidelines and education on telemedicine options in the state, and we fought to continue our Chapter community virtually, while social distancing. Along with that spirit to provide tangible positive change, the concept of the APTA Alaska Physical Therapy Community Clinic came to shape. Pro bono care is the goal, and Alaska is the target, not only the Anchorage community.
