To protect the integrity of Alaska’s marine ecosystems by empowering Alaskans to shape sustainable fisheries management.
About
AMCC was formed in 1994 by fishing communities concerned about protecting the health of Alaska’s marine ecosystems and wild fisheries, and the traditions and livelihoods they sustain. At the core of our mission is the belief that long-term stewardship of Alaska’s marine ecosystems and wild fisheries depends on fishermen and subsistence harvesters being able to live, work, and thrive in their communities. As those most closely connected to these resources, they are the most effective advocates for their conservation. Foundational to our efforts is building community among and educating, organizing, and elevating the voices of these local leaders to protect what we value. How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Alaska's oceans are some of the most intact and valuable marine ecosystems remaining on our planet, sustaining fisheries vital to supporting jobs, cultures, and a unique way of life. Over half of all seafood caught in the US is from Alaska and fishing-related industries employ more people than any other private sector. Despite their comparatively robust condition, they face unprecedented threats from climate change, unsustainable fishing practices, and more. With your support through Pick.Click.Give. AMCC will be better positioned to promote common sense, science-based policy and program solutions to address these threats and build their resilience as well as that of our fishing communities.
A cornerstone of our efforts is aimed at advancing sustainable, climate-resilient fisheries and bolstering fisheries access for community-based fishermen. We also provide meaningful opportunities for Alaska’s young and rising fishermen to connect with one another and the resources they need to be successful in their communities, careers, and as effective advocates. These range from hands-on fishing skills classes offered in local communities to months-long, paid internships with community-based host organizations engaged in fishery management and fishing community sustainability.
Alaska’s fisheries are among our most valuable resources, and AMCC is committed to protecting their health and ensuring fishing opportunities for Alaskans far into the future. Every Pick.Click.Give. donation helps us continue to catalyze meaningful progress. Thank you for your support!
