About
The Alaska Historical Society is an organization of almost 500 people who like Alaska, enjoy history, and want to learn and share information about the state's past. Since the society organized in 1967 it has published a quarterly newsletter, held an annual conference in different communities, and for over 30 years published a scholarly journal for with articles, photo essays, and reviews. The society encourages students, makes awards, and has special projects on the purchase and canneries.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
PCG funds donated to the Alaska Historical Society have been used to provide Student and Beginning Professional scholarships. The awards help with costs for at least two individuals to attend the Alaska Historical Society's annual conference. Each recipient makes a presentation on the research or work they are doing and has the opportunity to network. This has helped the students, as well as the Society. This year, the Society has a special initiative to invite discussion about the Alaska Treaty of Cession on the 150th anniversary of the event. A second special project is to call attention to the need to preserve several of the state's historic salmon canneries and prepare educational materials about them.Contact
