ADC supports local, regional, and statewide initiatives, including youth STEM programs and workforce development.
About
In partnership with the Juneau Economic Development Council (JEDC), the ADC supports local, regional, and statewide initiatives, including distributing grants in collaboration with the Juneau Community Foundation to Juneau residents affected by reoccurring glacial lake outburst floods; supporting the development of a construction trades workforce and an eldercare workforce in Southeast Alaska; and most notably, helping deliver high-quality STEM robotics programs and summer camps for K-12 students in Juneau and throughout Alaska. As an eligible 501(c)(3) charity partner, ADC helps fundraise to support JEDC’s work in these critical areas. ADC’s geographic reach is widespread, serving thousands of individuals in 30+ urban, rural, and village communities across our great state, from our largest urban center in Anchorage to remote coastal communities in Bristol Bay. Anchored in the capital city of Juneau – itself only accessible by air or sea – ADC’s work reflects both the logistical realities of Alaska’s dispersed communities and the organization’s commitment to expanding access to workforce development, youth programming, and economic relief and opportunity.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Alongside JEDC, ADC aims to increase interest and competencies in STEM fields – which are growing at five times the rate of non-technical jobs – organized around three strategies: Offer STEM enrichment activities to students; Facilitate professional development of teachers; and Participate in advocacy and outreach to build public awareness and support. Our work is guided by a commitment to hands-on, engaged learning that links students to real world opportunities and challenges in an environment of high expectations and discovery.
With ADC's fundraising assistance, JEDC’s STEM Summer Camps have been a cornerstone of summer learning and childcare activities in Alaska's Capital City since their inception in 2009. Our dedicated camp staff provide an exciting and enriching environment where K-12 students can explore STEM through hands-on projects and challenges. Designed to spark curiosity and build confidence, our camps help students develop critical thinking, problem solving, and technical skills while nurturing creativity and collaboration. Most of our camps are FIRST® LEGO robotics-based and supplemented by STEM-adjacent activities, including 3D design and printing, technical trades, and entrepreneurship.
Together, ADC and JEDC have delivered 100+ camps in Juneau with strong focus on youth safety, quality, and care. All camps are facilitated by trained instructors and counselors, high-school and college interns, and volunteers with diverse backgrounds, including many FIRST® Robotics Alumni. We invest in ongoing professional development for full-time and seasonal staff, supporting training in positive youth development, teamwork, and inclusion. Prior to each season, all camp staff also complete required training in First Aid, CPR, and emergency response. High staff-to-camper ratios and regularly updated safety protocols further ensure every camp provides a safe, supportive, and enriching experience.
