Trailside Discovery Camp, a program of The Alaska Center Education Fund, has been inspiring a love of nature and science in Alaska's youth since 1980. What began as a small summer program has grown into a statewide leader in outdoor environmental education, offering hands-on learning experiences. Rooted in a deep commitment to environmental stewardship, Trailside gives children the opportunity to explore Alaska’s wild places while building confidence, friendships, curiosity, and a lifelong connection to the natural world. Through summer camps, school-year programs, Adventure Club, and teen leadership opportunities, Trailside serves thousands of youth ages 5-14 each year-round. Campers learn about climate, wildlife, ecology, and community through immersive, place-based education led by passionate, trained educators. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards—and it all starts with giving kids the chance to get outside in a fun, supportive environment and discover the world around them.
