South Peninsula Haven House’s (SPHH) mission is to support and empower individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, child abuse, and sexual assault by providing safe shelter, crisis intervention, prevention, and advocacy. SPHH is a social service agency headquartered in Homer, Alaska. We provide vital services within the community, including an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking; a homeless assistance program; a violence intervention program; and several violence prevention programs for youth. Additionally, SPHH coordinates and provides victim advocates for the local Sexual Assault Response Team. SPHH also operates the Children’s Advocacy Centers (CAC) on the Kenai Peninsula. Our CACs work with children who are victims of sexual abuse and severe physical maltreatment. We coordinate the multidisciplinary teams, which include law enforcement, the Office of Children’s Services, District Attorney’s Office, and medical and mental health professionals; with the shared goal of minimizing the additional trauma faced by child victims during the process of investigation and prosecution of crimes. Services are offered in a comforting, home-like setting, allowing children to receive the care they need without traveling to multiple agencies. Our specially trained child forensic interviewers get the child’s story on record once; eliminating the trauma that occurs from having to retell their stories multiple times.
