About
Sitka Legacy Foundation is a local Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation (ACF). We’re building a permanent endowment to support Sitka and nearby rural communities on Baranof Island—strengthening local resilience and self-reliance for generations to come. We believe in Sitka’s future. That’s why we invest in the community organizations and other local entities that make this place special. Through grants, fundraising, and partnerships, we help ensure Sitka remains a vibrant place to live, work, raise families, and retire. We also nurture a culture of giving—connecting generous Sitkans with causes they care about and offering meaningful ways to give back. Whether you’re a lifelong resident, new to town, or from a family with ties to our community, your support helps build a stronger, more connected Sitka.

Sitka is a generous community. Our quality of life is enhanced by residents who volunteer to serve in local and tribal government and for our many nonprofit organizations. Our whole community benefits from generous financial gifts to municipal, tribal, faith-based, and nonprofit entities. Our permanent endowment is a long-term resource for Sitka. As it grows, it will provide another stream of funding for community priorities.Sitka Legacy Foundation exists to support our community organizations, not compete with them. We play a unique and vital role in Sitka’s nonprofit ecosystem. We serve as a convener, connector, and funder—bringing together nonprofits, donors, and community leaders to collaborate and strengthen our collective impact. Through our grantmaking and support, we help local organizations thrive. No other organization in Sitka fills this role.
Since 2013, SLF has awarded over $200,000 in grants to more than 60 local projects and nonprofits—supporting everything from youth leadership and elder care to food security, mental health, arts and culture, outdoor access, and emergency preparedness. Our grants have helped build trails, fund school programs, support cultural events, and provide critical services to those in need.
And we’re just getting started. With every donation, our permanent endowment grows—thanks to generous Sitkans like you and matching support from Rasmuson Foundation and The Alaska Community Foundation. As our endowment grows, so does our ability to respond to both urgent needs and long-term opportunities.
As an Affiliate of ACF, we benefit from statewide infrastructure while maintaining local leadership through our advisory board. Our part-time program manager and operating costs are currently funded by grants—but we’re working toward long-term sustainability.
