Provide support, education, and advocacy for individuals affected by mental illness, and their families, friends, and community.
About
We provide evidenced based support and education along with advocating for equitable treatment for individuals experiencing mental illness, their families, caregivers and community. We do this through creating safe spaces where our community can gather to discuss important topics and find support related to mental health without stigma, providing NAMI and other recognized educational and support programs, partnering with people and organizations in the community to advance the rights of strategically undervalued populations and involving the youth of our community in the operations and decision making of the organization.
Our free programs include peer and family support groups (NAMI Connections and Family Support Group), peer and family educational programs (NAMI Peer to Peer and Family to Family), monthly lunch and learn opportunities, monthly community roundtables, an indoor community garden, weekly crafting sessions, a youth cohort, quarterly storytime events, with a dance class coming soon!
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Your donation enables NAMI Anchorage to empower individuals with mental illness, their families, caregivers and community to work toward recovery. SAMHSA defines recovery as "a process of change that improves health, wellness, and quality of life for individuals with mental illness"
Specifically, contributions will be used to provide activities, refreshments, and needed resources at no cost to our community.
Your Pick.Click.Give donation directly helps the lives of people like a woman we call “Rose.” Rose is a young woman with physical disabilities that prevent her from being as socially active as she'd like which has led to isolation and depression. Rose found our weekly crafting sessions and decided to visit. In this group, Rose found acceptance and fellowship. She's now a regular participant and her caregivers and friends have noticed the improvement in her mental state, and the fact that she's now being more social!
Your donation will allow us to continue to offer services like the peer support and education that helped Rose finally find her place again.
Thank you for helping us provide a safety net
