About
Homer Community Food Pantry is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation created in 1991, whose mission is to provide food and emergency assistance with compassion to those seeking our services. We are a small organization of dedicated leaders, with an army of volunteers and the faithful support of the community that operates out of the Homer United Methodist Church basement to provide weekly food boxes to those in need of food, shelter and emergency support during difficult times. We are staffed with over 30 volunteers and a 11-member volunteer board of directors. We serve the lower income population as the primary resource for emergency services for those communities geographically located from Ninilchik to the Russian Villages at the head of Kachemak Bay, and across Kachemak Bay to the native villages of Nanwalek and Port Graham. An estimated 140 families are served weekly with 50% of clients utilizing our program 3 or less times per year.

Our vision is to be a bridge in a caring community for the sharing of resources as we address hunger and basic needs. Pick.Click.Give encourages those blessed with financial means to support organizations such as ours that are working hard to make our communities healthier and kinder places.Our annual budget has increased year over year to what is currently $314,000. 84% is funneled directly to clients through food, housing, utility, and other miscellaneous emergency services. Food purchases make up 57% of the annual expenses over and above those groceries donated annually by the local grocers, individuals and Farmer’s Market, which are not included in the annual financial statements.
We rely heavily on the generous support of the community at large, various grant opportunities, and Pick.Click.Give. Through donated dollars and in-kind donations of firewood and food, we are able to assist those less fortunate. For it is service above self that defines each of us.
