Enriching Interior Alaska through performing arts. We envision more deeply connected, inclusive communities engaged in the arts.
About
The Fairbanks Concert Association’s mission is to enrich Interior Alaska through the performing arts, and we are well on our way this year!
FCA offer the following:
- A variety of performances for all ages, this year including Diné Jazz, magic , A Queen sing-along, Irish Celtic, Americana folk, Cuban percussionist, big band jazz, and powerful bluegrass!
- Arts education through 4 school shows to an average of 4,500 students annually with workshops in schools.
- Community enrichment through extensive outreach activities, including outreach to Pioneer Home, Fairbanks Youth Facility, Boys and Girls Club and other social service agencies; to the military through extensive ticket donations and performances on posts , and through rural outreach to Delta Junction, Nenana, and the Denali Borough.
- Engagement through a variety of projects connecting with FCA artists, which offer community members the experience of the artist and makes Fairbanks a more fun, vibrant and inviting place to live. FCA also partnered with Tanana Chief Conference to offer four "Music is Medicine" workshops in Nenana and Galena with Dene jazz artist, Delbert Anderson Quartet.
- Economic enhancement by making Interior Alaska more inviting to tourists from both in and out of state, as a recruiting tool for professionals considering moving here, through the support of military and non-profit sector through ticket donations and outreach performances.

WELL-BEING CONCERT SERIES
In partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, this series of 5 shows features three local artists, and two artists from FCA’s 78th season. The series creatively explores the impact music has on individual and collective well-being, while amplifying the social, emotional, and educational benefits of musical performances. It will promote a healing sense of community, togetherness, support and care for others, a feeling of being seen and acknowledged, accepted where we are in life.
The Well-Being Concerts are designed to bring audiences closer to the healing, nurturing power of music. Each one is held in quiet, relatively small spaces. Patrons can recline on floor mats or cushions or take a seat on a chair. They will be on the same level as the performers, who are in the center of the space. The result is a much more intimate experience than a typical theater-style concert.
Each performance are tailored, making sure the host's comments, music, and general message is on point, culturally relevant, and helpful. This is a safe place to acknowledge conflicting feelings, listen to live music, and reflect on our state of mind.
The artists are either creating new music for their respective performances, or adapting, melding, transforming some of their repertoire to meet the expected format of our shows. We may know the artists, but no one will have heard these songs/tunes like this before!
Furthermore, we are collaborating with UAF's Psychology Department and conducting research on the impacts of live music on health and wellness, studying how it reduces physical and psychological markers associated with stress, anxiety, depression. These findings will then also be shared with Carnegie Hall and included in nationwide research.
Our hope is that these wellness-focused musical experiences will:
• Offer a soul-nourishing new way to benefit from music.
• Use the power of silence and sound to create shared experiences that build community.
• Offer tools and practices that can be used long after the last note is played. Each artist is carefully selected and is consulted in creating a performance that matches this new format.
With your support, we hope to extend and deepen our impact on communities in Interior Alaska. We will provide them with connection world artists, as well as tools and a renewed sense of community!
