The Cook Inlet watershed represents everything people love about Alaska—from scenic mountains, vast wetlands, and flowing glaciers, to abundant salmon streams and coastal waters teeming with wildlife. Because Cook Inlet is the most populated and fastest growing region in Alaska, we face greater strains on the water and salmon resources that define our Alaskan way of life. Cook Inletkeeper's programs works to protect the habitat that sustains our fisheries and supports our economy. Our Electronics Recycling Program has prevented tens of thousands of pounds of toxic waste from entering our landfills on the Kenai Peninsula and polluting our streams. Our science program has collected decades of stream temperature data, revealing how climate change intersects with wild salmon survival. Our outreach and organizing efforts bring communities together, amplify local voices, and build coalitions to protect salmon landscapes and advance local climate solutions.
