The Big Lake Advocates is the nonprofit arm of the Big Lake Library. We are all volunteers who actively support and enhance the role of the library in the Big Lake area. Our mission is to support, promote, and enhance the Big Lake Library as a vital educational and community resource through advocacy, fundraising, and volunteerism. We raise funds for essential programs, resources, and materials that fall outside the library’s regular budget. For example, our efforts provide the Summer Reading Program with prizes, puzzles, books, snacks, equipment, and supplies the library cannot afford. We also fund supplies and resources for the library’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) program—a hybrid learning experience that combines online and in-person activities. These engaging, follow-along lessons promote critical thinking, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. We also research and write grants to support library programs, educational materials and technology, and computer equipment for public use. Each year, Big Lake Advocates serves hundreds of children, teens, and adults through various programs and events. Looking ahead, we aim to expand year-round programming for all ages, increase community partnerships, and grow our fundraising capacity to meet emerging needs of the library and its patrons.
