The Alaska Songbird Institute (ASI)'s mission is to conserve Alaska's boreal birds through ecological education & research. We are based at Creamer's Field, in the heart of Fairbanks where we have been monitoring spring and fall migration for over three decades. We believe that science and conservation are everyone’s responsibility, and so we use a unique model of community-based research, relying on the hard work and passion of our volunteers and students to collect our data. These hands on experiences with wild birds and science can both inform and inspire, and together we are compiling one of Alaska’s only long-term datasets on boreal songbirds. This information helps us observe changes in wild bird populations and health over time and is essential to building successful conservation plans. We also believe in mentoring Alaska’s next generation of leaders in science, education, industry, and conservation, and so our work integrates K-12 field trips, youth mentoring, high school internships, and apprenticeships. We offer a diversity of other community education and citizen science programs throughout the year as well.
