Alaska Quarterly Review is Alaska's premier journal founded in 1980 by Ronald Spatz and James Jacob Liszka. Works from AQR have appeared in O. Henry Awards, Best American Essays, Best American Poetry, Best American Mystery Stories, Best Creative Nonfiction, Best American Short Stories, Best American Nonrequired Reading, Beacon Best, PEN America Best Debut Short Stories, and The Pushcart Prize. Alaska Quarterly Review has a rich a history of wide outreach and strong ties to the larger literary community here and abroad. AQR presents literary works in hard copy print and e-book formats, and on-line where readers have access to 35 of our most recent editions (website). AQR also conduct a wide array of related arts and cultural events, including workshops, panel discussions, craft talks, and readings, often partnering with other organizations such as the Anchorage Museum, Anchorage Public Library, 49 Writers, Alaska Center for the Book, and bookstores. Additionally, we promote the writers we publish and future writers by promoting the reading of our writers in schools. We archive online events for use by writers, readers, and teachers to ensure our writers and poets find their readers on AQR's YouTube channel. Ronald Spatz serves as Editor-in-Chief.
