Since 1978, AFDF has worked to strengthen the economic and environmental resilience of Alaska’s fisheries through innovation, research, and strategic partnerships. AFDF is committed to continually advancing Alaska’s seafood industry toward a sustainable future. AFDF collaborates with multiple diverse partners across Alaska, who represent coastal communities, harvesters and processors, researchers, industry leaders and more. By engaging with stakeholders across the state, AFDF provides programs that directly benefit Alaska and that add value to the seafood industry. Current programs include support of mariculture development, sustainable fisheries certification through MSC and CSI, startup accelerators for Blue Economy businesses, and the Alaska Symphony of Seafood, an annual seafood competition that encourages innovation in new product development using Alaska seafood products. Through these core programs, along with additional research and development projects, AFDF furthers its mission of developing the seafood industry by identifying common problems to developing efficient, sustainable solutions that benefit the economy, environment, and communities of Alaska.
